For anyone that is a parent, you realize there are an enormous amount of books and literature telling you just how to raise your kids so they grow up smart and successful. Well, that got me thinking. Many times I am amused by just how helpful being in a fantasy league is in our personal lives. You don't believe me? Well let's try on a few examples and many of them come from real life scenarios with names omitted to protect the guilty.
Relationships: We know pleasant ones are a lot better than bickering ones. Why? Because they make it easier to communicate and we tend to like people that make our lives easier. When you are comfortable, you let your guard down and have a better dialogue without worrying. In relationships, we want to be with people that compliment us and help us to grow. Well what does that have to do with Fantasy? In a word, EVERYTHING. You see, I know in my 15 years of league, the same groups of people always tend to keep putting deals together each year and they do this because, they have "worked" together before and they are comfortable in their relationship prior to any talks of this player for that one. Relationships are the tonic for making things happen and allow you to get to your point quickly without the dance of getting to know a stranger like the time you had your first date with your spouse and you had spinach in your teeth the whole night. Now that is what a relationship is built on!
Money or Business: In business, who would you rather buy from, a stranger you never met or someone who has treated you well in the past and has a track record that you appreciate and makes you feel good when you walk out of the store? I think we would all choose the latter. When we negotiate, we all come into the situation knowing that I am probably not going to walk away from this interaction entirely satisfied. Both sides realize there is a give and take in a business transaction. You may need to give up your backup RB if you really want to get the QB you need. You realize this and are thus happy to throw him in the deal. That is no different than telling the car salesman that you are ready to sign for the car but only if he throws in the satellite radio and a sunroof or the deal is off. Leverage and timing are important aspects in business. He who has the leverage wins! Fantasy has taught you to negotiate a hard bargain and hold out for the best deal possible, especially when you have the leverage. I bet you are counting all those dollars you saved over the years right now because of the skills you learned in fantasy!
Happiness: This is just about life in general. Your status for example can make you happy or sad. The friends and family you have, your education, experiences, travel, hobbies, etc. Yet all of these are essentially negotiations too. Are you going to take that expensive vacation this year to Bora Bora or are you going to put that money towards the kids college fund (including your winnings from this year's daily fantasy football)? Life is about tradeoffs and negotiations. Take it or leave it we tell the travel agent, which is the same thing we said to The Marauders at the trading deadline last year when they were trying to decide at the eleventh hour if they should take auction cash for next season to trade their less than stellar Michael Turner? Something is better than nothing right? Ultimately, getting the things we work towards in life makes us happy, at least temporarily and that is taught every time in fantasy football.
It is fun to be a sports fan. Being one enables you to have something to look forward to after a long day in school or the office. It is a great way to relax, unwind and escape from the stress and pressure of your daily routine. Having a team to root for or a player to idolize gives you a different sense of excitement every time they are scheduled to play a game. And of course I would never forget the excitement that fantasy betting gives me. It is like betting on real sports, but here I bet on my fantasy team or I bet on someone else team. So I have more control on who will win. That is why I was hook at it fast.
One of the sports that has lured millions of followers across the globe is American football. In the US, this sport is considered to be the most popular among them all. Some of the most popular professional football players we have now started building their NFL dreams as early as pre-adolescence. They trained and practiced until they were fit enough to qualify for the mental, emotional and physical demands of this sport.
Because not all of us are blessed with the appropriate skill set for a football player, many are just contented to sit back and watch the game, and participate in fantasy football leagues and sports betting or a combination of both – fantasy betting. These activities, however, will still require some serious talent and keen sense from anybody who decides to dive into these.
Of course, you should familiarize yourself with how actual football works. Know and understand the rules, terms and jargons commonly and rarely used. When that has been done, learn the rules of its variations. It could be a bit difficult to decide and strategize at first, but constant practice and participation would give you the hang of it.
So when you need assistance in your Super Bowl spread, fantasy football players, and many more, the internet has loads to offer. It is a good source of information when it comes to football betting and fantasy games.
Take your being a football fan a step higher than usual by being part of this kind of activities. Enjoy and take pleasure in it while learning new and exciting things about the world of football! See you and your fantasy team. And let’s bet on who will win.
To begin, let’s cover fundamental strategy concerns for daily fantasy basketball. Let us analyze the strategy based on the draft method for the contest, and will keep things as generic as possible. First, let’s discuss the ranking cap contests.
Ranking Cap Contests
These are as tough as they get. The ranking cap is set as the average fantasy points scored per game for each player. If you indiscriminately select a daily fantasy basketball team using all of a 200-point cap, your team would, on average, score 200 fantasy points that day. To win these contests, you need to pick a team that will score above average, which is above 200 points. Now to get above 200 points, the obvious thing to do is pick the biggest fantasy point scorers like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant who average 40+ fantasy points per game and put them in your team. Not so fast. You want to pick players who you think will score more than their rank cap value in that day's game. You should only select LeBron or Kobe if you think they will rack up more points than their cap value. Since there cap value is high, they need to put up a bunch of points just for you to "break even" on them. So, the big question is how would you know who will outscore their daily fantasy basketball cap value in a given game? There are several things to look for here.
1. The Matchup
The team your player is in and how well the opponent defends are huge fantasy points. Also, home field advantage is important. You should try to select players who are up against poor defenses and are playing at home when possible.
2. The Streak
Players who are hot tend to stay hot, and those that are cold tend to stay cold with all else being equal. Try to select players that have been playing well over the last few weeks to a month. Select players that have been consistently beating their rank cap value over the last several games, and plan on them continuing to do so.
3. The Playing Time
Players who were bench warmers for most of the season, but now are starters or have their minutes way up are solid selections. Their average fantasy points per game will be reduced by the lack of playing time earlier in the season, making it easier for them to exceed their cap value now.
4. The Cap Value
Players who have large cap values are more risky than players with small cap values, but the downside is much larger. Let’s say you pick up somebody with a value of 30 points, and for some reason they do not play, or have a very bad game. You could end up 30 points below their average score. Now, let’s have the same situation for a player with a value of 12 points. If they do not play, you are only 12 points shy of the average total. Players with small cap values have more upside potential than downside risk. Players with high cap values have more downside risk than upside potential.
5. The Injuries
Make sure your player is in good health prior to drafting. Injuries are noted in the draft screen. Do not draft questionable players, and be careful when selecting probable players. Remember that the average points scored was done when the player was healthy, in most cases.
Player projections can be found on fantasy sports websites. You can develop your own mathematical models, or you may just intuitively understand player projections from your high level of daily fantasy baseball knowledge. No matter how you do it, this is where to start. I like to use a player’s average fantasy points per game as a base, and try to determine all of the factors in today’s game that would cause them to tend to score higher or lower than their season average score. Factors to consider are listed below.
Fantasy Hitters
- Opponent's starting pitcher’s strength – You want your hitter against a poor pitcher and not an ace.
- Opponent team's relief pitching – The starter will not likely complete the whole game, so you will probably get a few innings with relievers. Are your opponent's relievers better or worse than average?
- Opponent starting pitcher's throwing hand – How does your hitter do against left and right handed pitchers? Are they going to do better or worse than average based on the opposing starter?
- Home or away games – Is the game at home or away? Does the hitter perform better at home or away? Also keep in mind that home batters may get fewer at bats at home vs. away, as the home team may not play the bottom of the ninth.
- Heat factor – How has your hitter been playing lately? Baseball players are pretty streaky. Hot players tend to stay hot and cold players tend to stay cold in the short-term. Try to select players that have been playing very well lately.
Fantasy Pitchers
- Opponent hitter strength – Which teams are easiest for daily fantasy baseball pitchers to score highly against and are more likely to get the win against, and which teams tend to shell starting pitchers and chase them out of games? Give your pitcher a good match-up and he will score higher than normal over the long-term.
- Opposing pitcher strength – Are you pitching against an ace or a scrub? This matters if you want to get the win because of its high fantasy score. A good pitcher will still likely lose if they are up against a better pitcher. So not only do you want a good pitcher, you want to make sure that the opposing pitcher is bad.
- Home or away game – How does your pitcher do at home vs. away? Some ballparks work very well with starting pitchers and others do not. Also, pitchers in general tend to score higher at home because home teams are more likely to get the win.
- What are the odds? – I always like to check an online sportsbook to see who the highest favored teams are that day to win. The highest favored teams are the most likely to get the win according to the public's consensus. A highly favored starting pitcher is simply more likely to win than they are to lose. It is good, if not required, that the pitcher you select is also on a highly favored team that day.
The thing about sports aside from the adrenaline given out by the players, (it) is also the prizes that makes everyone want to win. Of course, everything has to pay off. In this case, the fantasy football cash reward is the most coveted prize and everyone is eyeing for this. The thing is, even if you have an above-average team, you will still have a chance to win something. Unlike the other contests wherein only the champion and the runner-ups have chances of winning, with fantasy football, the other teams have that opportunity to walk away with something.
The top fantasy football prize for the budget, premium and high stakes leagues usually have a $500 guaranteed bonus prize to the topmost scorer of all the teams. Now, this is something people want to get. Five hundred dollars may not be enough for some, but at least there is money involved. More so, when you compare the other fantasy sports sites, they may not even offer this much cash prize to the underdogs. Just be thankful for this chance.
The first place fantasy football prize under the budget leagues is $250, $500 for the Premium Leagues and $1,400 for the High Stakes leagues. The second place prizes are $100, $175 and $350 respectively. A fifty dollar-worth gift certificate is given to the third placer under the budget leagues. On the other hand, $100 and $225 are given to the third placers for the Premium and High Stakes Leagues. For the fourth and fifth placers, they have the same prizes. Prizes are $150 for the High Stakes Leagues, $100 for those under the Premium Leagues and $25 worth of gift certificates for the ones under the Budget Leagues.
If you are thinking whether those who ranked sixth place and onwards will be able to receive fantasy football prizes, the answer is yes. Sixth placers up to the tenth placers will get the same prize of $10 worth of gift certificates from the Budget Leagues, $50 worth gift certificates for the Premium Leagues and none for those coming from the High Stakes Leagues. There is also a prize for teams ranking 11th up to the 25th. Ten dollars worth of gift certificates will be given to those coming from the aforementioned ranking under the Budget League. However, there are no prizes for those teams under the Premium and High Stakes Leagues.
Whatever prize the team gets, surely they had a good time playing fantasy football. They were able to prove themselves once again to their fans that they can still work well even if their teammates are not the same ones they have on the professional league. With this, do yourself a favor and cheer for the team you think deserves to be at the top. Assess the rankings of the players before deciding which one to pick. It can be quite a hard thing to do but you have to. Cheering for your favorite teams and players add fun and enjoyment once you watch the game.
In every sport, there are guidelines that you have to follow. It is very important that you know these things so that you can have a deeper understanding of whatever fantasy sport you want, just like football. Here are some guidelines that you would want to remember when it comes to an online fantasy football league.
Dos
. Use a cheat sheet
This is for the preparation of your draft. You can make your own cheat sheet but there are also those that you can use coming from the Internet. In case you want to use both, that is fine as well. You can use whichever you are more comfortable with. However, you have to remember that the draft is not always 100% successful. The team still depends on how the players will perform. All you need to do first is start or join an online fantasy football league.
· Become active in fantasy football mock drafts
These mock drafts usually happen in chat rooms or in some cases, football forums. The idea of participating in this event is that you are giving your opinion to others. They may even follow your lead and accept your ideas.
· Learn the fantasy football projections
There are people who do this for you and you have that option whether to follow it or not. Nevertheless, you can also learn how to do this to reverse the cycle. Now that you can do the projections for the fantasy football, others will now rely on what you think before making their drafts.
Don’ts
· Forgetting weekly updates for the online fantasy football league
If there is one thing in the world that you should not commit in an online fantasy football league, that is not updating your lineup weekly. Think about it. For example, one of your players injured himself in the previous game, you have to have someone to fill in his position. Being one player short could mean a loss on your part.
· Trading your star players
You have to make them warm up and let them do their thing. Do not go on trading star players especially if it is just the start of the season. Give them ample time to show you what they can do. Do not panic because it will do you no good. Imagine if you traded them and then they end up doing well for another team. How would that make you feel?
· Abandoning your team
No matter what happens, do not abandon your team. You are in this together so you have to stick up with them even if they are unable to live up to the expectations that you have. They count on you so just be by their side all throughout the game and season.
These are only a few of the dos and don’ts when it comes to fantasy football. Do remember these things because they will come in handy once the season starts.
